THE VOLLRATH® COMPANY HELPS TO PROVIDE
"A SALAD BAR IN EVERY SCHOOL"

SHEBOYGAN, WI - March 2010 - Vollrath, a leading manufacturer of quality smallwares and equipment for the foodservice industry for more than 135 years, is collaborating with The United Fresh Produce Association Foundation to support their recently launched "Salad Bar in Every School" campaign. Vollrath, in partnership with its network of dealers and distributors, is providing the necessary salad bar equipment needed to make it easy for any school to incorporate a salad bar into their existing floor plan. The "Salad Bar in Every School" campaign was launched in support of the goals of the Obama Administration's bipartisan childhood obesity initiative "Let's Move."
United Fresh selected Vollrath as one of its preferred partners to collaborate on this campaign. Vollrath is able to provide schools with a variety of standard or customized salad bar options. Also, once the selected school chooses their salad bar design, Vollrath supplies the salad bar completely assembled with all the essential products included from the breath guards to the serving pans. In addition, Vollrath's U.S. made salad bars are mobile, making it easy for the school's foodservice team to move the salad bar into place, plug it in and begin serving students healthier food options.
"Vollrath is proud to partner with United Fresh on this program and help provide schools across the country with the quality salad bar equipment they need to increase their student?s daily intake of fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables," noted Ray Brooks, Vollrath's director of equipment sales.
The "Salad Bar in Every School" campaign was developed by United Fresh as a multi-year public health commitment to bring fruit and vegetable salad bars to schools across America. "Research has shown that children significantly increase their consumption of fruits and vegetables when given a variety of choices in a school salad bar," said Dr. Lorelei DiSogra, United Fresh vice president of nutrition and health. "By increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables through salad bars in schools, we can provide kids with a personal experience about making choices that can shape behavior far beyond the school lunch line. Children learn to make decisions that carry over outside of school, providing a platform for a lifetime of healthy snack and meal choices," she said.
To date, United Fresh has donated salad bars in Washington, D.C., Nevada's Nye County School District, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kannapolis, North Carolina. The United Fresh Foundation?s "Salad Bar in Every School" campaign is based on the personal involvement and charitable commitment of produce growers, distributors and marketers to raise private funds to donate salad bars to schools in cities and counties across the country to serve as demonstration models for increasing children's fresh fruit and vegetable consumption. The hope is that these demonstration projects will then assist school nutrition professionals, principals and teachers, parents groups and community supporters in working with local, state and federal government officials to bring salad bars to all schools across the U.S.
